Ananya Panday opens Rahul Mishra’s AFEW showcase in an ivory ensemble that fuses structure, softness, and intricate storytelling at Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI.

At a moment when Indian fashion is leaning into quiet luxury with renewed intent, Ananya Panday emerged as the perfect muse to set the tone. Opening SUPIMA X AFEW by Rahul Mishra at Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI, she embodied a refined duality – sharp yet fluid, structured yet expressive – in a look that felt both directional and deeply wearable.
Dressed in an ivory ensemble from AFEW by Rahul Mishra, Ananya Panday’s outfit reimagined classic power dressing through a softer, more feminine lens. A glossy oversized blazer anchored the look, layered over a crisp shirt adorned with subtle dragonfly embellishments – motifs that added dimension without overwhelming the palette.
The pleated skirt introduced movement, balancing the rigidity of the blazer with a sense of ease. Together, the elements created a silhouette that felt intentional yet effortless, echoing the evolving needs of the modern wardrobe, where versatility and statement coexist.
The showcase, part of SUPIMA’s ongoing collaboration with Rahul Mishra, marked a significant milestone – two decades since Mishra’s early days on the GenNext platform. His Fall/Winter 2026 collection, White Gold, explored cotton not just as a fabric, but as a narrative.
From delicate embroidery inspired by cotton buds and surrounding ecosystems to the introduction of lightweight SUPIMA denim, the collection blurred the lines between heritage and modernity. Mishra said, “Twenty years ago, the GenNext platform gave me the courage to imagine a different future for Indian craft. This showcase with SUPIMA feels like a natural continuation of that journey. Cotton has always been deeply connected to our country’s textile heritage, and working with SUPIMA allowed us to explore its lightness, strength, and adaptability in new ways while remaining rooted in handloom and hand embroidery.”
What elevated Panday’s appearance wasn’t just the ensemble, but the attitude she brought to it. There was a deliberate playfulness in her walk. It softened the severity often associated with tailoring, making the outfit feel accessible rather than aspirational.
In many ways, this moment captured where Indian fashion is headed: rooted, responsible, and refreshingly real. And at its forefront stood Ananya Panday, translating craft into contemporary cool with effortless ease.
